EZ PRF, Platelet-rich Fibrin
EZ PRF gel, the natural superpower of the body
EZ PRF, platelet-rich fibrin, contains your own blood with platelets, fibrin, and white blood cells.
Platelets carry growth factors to increase collagen and elastin development
Fibrin provides stability for healing and tissue growth
White blood cells fight infections and encourage healing
EZ PRF partners with albumin, a carrier protein, to create a natural restorative filler. The albumin, when heated and then cooled, creates a gel-like consistency. Mixing the PRF and albumin gel creates a thicker consistency and flexibility which creates the plumping effect of a filler.
Treatment Areas Include (not an extensive list):
Chin and jawline
Lip augmentation
Enlarged pores
Sunken cheeks
Under eye hollows or discoloration
Deep wrinkles and fine lines
Scarring
EZ PRF treatments promote the production of elastin and collagen, resulting in younger, smoother, and more natural-looking skin. They can be combined with other treatments, such as microneedling or laser treatments, to enhance the healing process.
EZ PRF gel differs from traditional injectable fillers as it is a natural treatment derived from your own body. While traditional fillers like hyaluronic acid aim to restore lost volume and target facial wrinkles, they may also lead to a swollen appearance 3-6 months later. Biostimulators like Radiesse stimulate collagen growth and boost volume, but they contain synthetic materials and may not be suitable for everyone. PRF can act as a preparatory treatment for traditional fillers such as Botox, Hyaluronic acid, and Radiesse by increasing collagen and skin strength, which in turn enhances the skin’s ability to retain the filler in place.
EZ PRF offers the best of both worlds! Your skin gets a collagen and volume boost without the use of synthetic ingredients. You don't have to worry about an unnatural filler appearance because the materials come from your own body and harness its natural healing properties!
Treatment Preparation
Dr. Smaldone recommends increasing your hydration in the days leading up to your appointment to allow for easier blood draw and skin healing. Avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medications, NSAIDs, and Aspirin before your appointment.
What to Expect
We begin with a blood draw, then the blood is placed in a centrifuge to separate the PRF from the red blood cells. Once this separation occurs, the PRF is removed with a syringe, injected into the treatment area, or mixed with albumin to create the EZ gel.
After the Procedure
Following the procedure, it is normal to experience some bruising and downtime. Swelling may persist for 3-4 days after the treatment, as this allows the body to deliver more growth factors to the area and reduce inflammation naturally. The effects of EZ PRF treatments can last anywhere from 6 months to a year.
Collagen production takes time, and the most significant changes are visible after the third treatment. This also leads to a lasting effect as the growth factors slowly release. To achieve your desired results, Dr. Smaldone suggests undergoing 3 treatments spaced 1 month apart initially, followed by 2-4 treatments per year for maintenance.
